I know that chevys are known for having weaker transmissions, but i want to know if i need to get it checked. Like any other chevy, the transition between first and second gear is quite less than smooth. The truck is a 2003 and has always been great, besides this. Do the rumors of the chevy transmissions make it seem like its worse than it is, or do i need to do make sure i dont blow a tranny.Chevy silverado transmission problems?
On cars and trucks built after the late 80's to mid 90's depending on the vehicle the computer that controls the engine also controls the transmission if something is going wrong with the transmission it will turn on the check engine light. Some times the check engine light will come on before you can tell there is a problem. If your check engine light works and isn't on while the engine is running your transmission is fine.
Also GM had the lowest failure rate of the big three under warranty a few years ago GM 1.2 percent Ford 2.1 percent and Chrysler a little over 3 percent so I think the rumor you heard is wrong. I have seen a lot of Fords loose 2nd gear at about 80,000 miles though.Chevy silverado transmission problems?
Chevys are known for having weaker transmissions?
You sure couldn't prove that by me and I doubt you could prove that by a great many drag racers whose tranny of choice is the THM350. But then I am an unyielding stickler for maintenance. My last three Chevy pickups, two of which had the THM350 tranny and the 1988 I am still driving having the THM400 tranny, has given me at least 150,000 miles of trouble free driving. The THM400 in my 1988 has more than 220,000 miles and it is still strong and has never been opened for repairs, although I did replace the front and rear seals around 170,000 miles. I'm sure you would have a different opinion of Chevy transmissions, whether it be the older turbo-hydramatics or the newer electronic hydramatics, if you do as I do and change the tranny filter every 25,000 miles and do a complete fluid flush and filter change every 50,000 miles.Chevy silverado transmission problems?
That's odd.
I've got a 1991 Chevy 2500 with 246,000 miles on it and never changed tranny fluid, and NEVER had a problem.
Did you have the fluid changed or something?Chevy silverado transmission problems?
The answer is probably yes although I always heard Fords had weak trannys but were saved by lack of power.
ARE YOU DOGGING THE TRUCK???.see if there is a recall on it or just have the fluid/filter changed, and stop dogging it
