Would you recommend Hondas or Toyotas?

I currently have a 2000 Chevy Malibu with 140,532 miles on it and the original alternator still on it (no major repairs except replacement of fuel pump about 50,000 miles ago, and routine maintenance -- I think I've been fortunate so far). I plan to get a used vehicle when the Malibu fizzles out. I am afraid to get another American-made car because I know so many people who have had trouble with them. I hear such good reviews from my co-workers (and in Consumer Reports) about Hondas and Toyotas. One of my co-workers used to drive Chevys and in 1998 she got a Toyota, still drives it, and says she will not go back to Chevys. Also, my stepmother's sister has a Toyota that has over 400,000 miles on it and they haven't had to do any real major repairs.Would you recommend Hondas or Toyotas?
I've had three Toyotas and they have all been excellent. i recommend Toyotas.Would you recommend Hondas or Toyotas?
that's good but from what i heard honda, specifically civic hondas have good gas mileage. everybody thinks so too. so try looking it up but the decision is still up to you.
Between Honda and Toyota, I think Toyota makes a better car.Would you recommend Hondas or Toyotas?
Of course anything can happen--lemons happen-but my sisters and my husband's had great luck with Hondas-I took over his car these last few months cause he was using public trans and it is totally solid. I am not sure of the mileage but this is the beginning of its eleventh year, going strong, no major repairs, only maintenence. It is well kept up with the maintenance. I think it's not really a matter of where they are made, cause the foreign cars are made here and many parts are too. I think it's better overall mechanical design and higher standards that gives them the edge.
You should test drive both makes and see what you prefer and how comfortable you are in it.

Toyota are more refined and ride is incredibily smooth. From a male in his early 20's I feel that Toyota (Camry) are a bit older for my taste but if i was in my 30's with a family I would definitely consider.

In my family we drive Honda / Acura and they run great with proper maintenance. My parents drive

Either one you can't go wrong!Would you recommend Hondas or Toyotas?
Comparing Hondas and Toyotas to Chevrolets is not fair. Chevs are the cheapest line from GM. Toyotas and Hondas are built like Buicks and Cadillacs are supposed to be built, just smaller, which has nothing to do with quality.

Hondas are very good when new but do not age gracefully, after 100,000 miles they tend to get cranky. This is because they are built with performance in mind. Toyotas generally are not built with performance in mind, and tend to last longer than Hondas. You could also consider the Mazda line which may be offered by Ford in some areas, these also have Toyota-like quality.
We have 5 toyota-lexus in our family, mom drives an 06 Lexus RX350, dad drives a 05 Toyota Avalon Limited, and they have a 02 Lexus SC430 as a weekend car. My sister drives a 02 Toyota 4runner Limited and my older brother drives a 01 Lexus RX300. I can tell you that they haven't experience a major problem from any of these cars.

List of repairs:

02 4runner Limited had to replace starter at 120,000 miles cost:$100 and O2 Sensor at 100,000 miles cost:$130

01 Lexus RX300 had to replace starter at 140,000 miles cost:$125

that's it, other than regular maintainence like sparks plugs, batteries, tires, oil, oil filter
If I had to pick between the 2....Toyota.

However, a person can get at least 200,000 miles from any modern car. It's all in how you keep up on rutine maintainance and how you drive the car. I've seen well cared for Chevys last 400,000 miles and beat on Toyotas die at 80,000.

You've had good luck with Chevy, why not stick with them?

Personal taste here, why would want to drive the same car for 400,000 miles? I'm bored with a car after 10,000!
Hondas
