Why does almost everyone on this board answer questions with opinions and not facts?

I like Fords better than Chevys: Opinion, does not require proof.

I agree one hundred percent. we should be asking question that are sensible and responding as such. A good example of a sensible question could be something like, well; lets see now; how about "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?" Yes, that would be a good place to start. Then all could answer factually that in fact they had not. Great question, thank you for asking it! Because there are a lot subjets that you can just give an opinion because does't exist a fact to certain themes.
Excellent question. Perhaps it's because:



a) people don't have the facts, so they are forced to rely on their unverifiable opinions

b) people have the facts, but in trying to answer quickly (to get 2 points), they don't take the time to search their long-term memory

c) people believe their personal opinion matters more than fact-based argumentation



Sure, a few people answer with facts. But I think the superior answerers include both fact and line of reasoning, so that their knowledge is coupled with persuasive power. This ensures that the asker will seriously consider the answer and possibly apply it in his/her life.Why does almost everyone on this board answer questions with opinions and not facts?
why would that question appear in philosophy board, or are you asking about ANSWERS.yahoo in general. I think everything is subjective to an extent, even the science questions and answers. Even the history ones to for that matter, for we see all kinds of interpretations of the same historical event.... whatever happended to Objective Reality?

it is yahoo answers education and critical thinking skills are optional not required all you need is a yahoo id to qualify
philosophy is not neccesarily about facts, it can be about personal beliefs that have no way of being expressed use the "cold, hard facts"

Because as a race we're all so damn arrogant we think our individual opinions are fact. I am right - this is not an opinion - I know best - therefore this is fact.

Unless you have read every question %26amp; answer, and provide statistics, I'd say your question is a matter of opinion also. I would agree with you, but that is opinion again, %26amp; not fact:)
