Why are japanese cars considered more reliable than American cars?

What are the mechanicla reasons why cars like Hondas and Corollas are considered much mroe dependable than Fords, Chevys, etc?Why are japanese cars considered more reliable than American cars?

As for the reason why:

It comes down to the people who builds the cars, and the proprietary technology in the factories.



The average Japanese factory worker has extensive math and science education many years ahead of the average American plant worker. Many have college degrees. Reliability comes from build quality, which not every company has fully figured out. Honda and Toyota has, but this doesn't include every Japanese or Korean company. It is proprietary technology that these 2 companies possess in building super factories that build quality cars, and the far better educational level of the average factory worker that makes all the difference in reliability.



For instance... Toyotas in general are far more reliable than any other car company, even European ones. But a Toyota Camry built in Japan is far more reliable than the same Camry built in the US. So both people and factory technology has to do with it.



For the US companies to catch up, they first need to get out of the tremendous dept cause by retire worker health care. Other developed nations don't deal with this problem because the government pays for health care. Then US companies need to invest more automated, and precise factories, better materials, and hire smarter people. Smart people are hard to come by in the US (I do a lot of hiring, I know.), which is mainly the fault of our sub-standard and underfunded K-12 public education system. So as you can see, there are quite a few major problems that US needs to work out from the legal, government side, before US car companies can really compete.Why are japanese cars considered more reliable than American cars?
