There is something almost indefinably different abt. driving VWs. They seem to be so 'sure-footed' or solid when driven. The steering too is unlike other vehicles.
Again, its difficult to put into words. But the feeling is there.
Pay no attention to those that claim VW parts are higher than others.
Part for part, VW prices are no higher than other cars I have owned. Lets face it ALL costs are high in this runaway economy....groceries, health care etc.
As far as maintenance goes, we follow the owners manual. The only thing we have done to our Jetta is oil/filter changes, etc.I'm thinking about buying a used 05 VW Jetta, I was wondering if they are realiable? I usually drive chevys.?
Have personally seen many VW over 100k miles, but there is no one reliable car, reliability is very determined by how well the car has been taken care of. I check edmunds.com and JDpower and do research on reviews to find out what people tend to replace the most. Goodluck in your search and hope it works out good for you.I'm thinking about buying a used 05 VW Jetta, I was wondering if they are realiable? I usually drive chevys.?

Anything man made is not reliable. Anything is better than the newer chevy's though. VW are a good performance car, if you want to go with a jetta get a diesel that will last you forever. I would go with Nissan, Toyota, or Honda cars, if you really want a Chevy though the Monte Carlo is probably your best choice.I'm thinking about buying a used 05 VW Jetta, I was wondering if they are realiable? Mine (an 84) went 720K miles on same engine. Body rusted away. I think that speaks for itself.
i think an 05 vw can be reliable if u maintain it properly. both the end of the 4th generation and the beginning of the fifth generation started in 2005 so u r either looking at a mk4 2005 vw or a mk5 2005.5 vw.
ive read that the late mk4s work better than the early mk4s after problems with the early mk4s(electrical/auto transmissions) were more or less fixed by the end of the generation. and the mkV 2005.5 is most likely to run better than early mkIV's but i dont know much about the fifth generation.
