If Chevy pulled out of NASCAR the sport will collapse. The fanbase will collapse. Some drivers will go to other racing series (WoO or USAC) because they will only race Chevys (Dale Jr., Tony Stewart, etc...)Why is Chevrolet still in Nascar after the bailout?
He insinutated that Dale Jr. actually races in NASCAR, more like runs in a circle chasing his tail...

We're not paying for the Chevrolet stock cars at all. The racing teams are paying for them. Perhaps you would prefer that the government did nothing, and let hundreds of thousands more jobs go down the toilet. That would have done wonders for the economy.
In all honesty, the manufacturers are probably profiting from NASCAR.Why is Chevrolet still in Nascar after the bailout?
Racing is marketing. They need the marketing to sell more cars.
Tax payers aren't paying for people to go play, that's not how it works.
Tax payers should be pissed that our own politician's allow Toyota to get tariff free steel and free land for there American factory's and all the other reasons that make Toyota more profitable. Plus the fact that Japan does not allow competition so GM can't have factory's there.
Manufacturers exist in racing for only one reason. Advertising. They aren't in racing for charity or for their own amusement. I have no problem with them still being here after the bailout.
But I do disagree with bailouts. The gov't should just let these companies fail. But thats an argument for another forum. Why is Chevrolet still in Nascar after the bailout?
Advertising and public relations is the reason they still participate.
This "question" actually this thinly veiled RANT is
more suited to some political or socioeconomic section.
The folks in this section are Nascar fans and won't buy in on your theory.
Advertising and its obviously well worth the money. Hard to sell cars if you cant tell people you make them.
simple .. Rick Hendrick is a Chevy Man.. He is BIG in NASCAR and owns a lot of chevy dealerships... Rick has people in high places...
MoPar aint on the ropes.
GET OUT NOW!
Toyota should go ahead and pull out too since they took a bailout from the Japanese Gov't.
Same reason people are still driving them on the streets, because they want to.
because chevy owns
in case you haven't heard they did pay it all back 5 years early with interest, announced it awhile back. Dodge got the bailout to and actually from what i heard was in worse trouble, maybe because they didn't have as many choices of ways to fix things. so why is Dodge still in it then? oh and that whole Toyota recall BS because instead of doing a recall ASAP when they should have they let people die that shouldn't have and did a recall because they were forced to so why are they still in NASCAR?
and i know it seems like GM whined (like you're whining about them whining....) to get the money but all the bailout was, was a loan, that's it. not a whole lot different than you going to get a loan to buy a house or vehicle, you're spending money you don't have then you pay the money back, the bailouts was just on a lot bigger scale. but i don't see anybody whining about the banks getting bailouts and hell they even deal with money, ironic huh?
oh and nobody pays for those cars in any way before or after the bailout. only thing GM might pay for is developing the engines and well only if you want to say GM owners help pay for that then that means they (me to) did before they even did a bailout. and from what i've seen the taxes didn't go up so the govt just used that money a different way and if they did raise taxes it wouldn't be enough to even notice, maybe the amount it would take to buy a pack of gum oh wow you got to cut back now. plus i'd rather the tax money went tot he "American automakers" than people on welfare, at least the ones that don't even try looking for a job
Yeah CHEVYPRIDE, they did pay it back. Oh wait, No they didn't, not to the people they owed money, they changed their name on the company to "The New GM" and "The New Chevy"... That meant they had no more debt. "The Old Chevy" and "The Old GM" was who owed money... So basically all the companies that were owed money from the old GM, were just wrote off as a loss... So that is why so many jobs went bust in the industry... My cousin works for GeTrag Gears here in NC, The Old Chevy left them high and dry on all old debts. Then started making new contracts, totally acting like nothing ever happened... The rear ends they build are for Cadillac and Corvette. Two of the vehicles that shouldn't have any problems making money for themselves.
But this goes far deeper than that. Chevy has been handed NASCAR bailouts as well... Look at the 08 season. NASCAR gave Chevy a "Torque engine package" for the chase. It was released the race before the chase and gave Chevy a definite advantage over the rest of the field... It was all disguised, because in 90% of the public eyes, torque doesn't mean a thing... Just as long as the horsepower was equal, is all that the majority of the public even knows... But in small and medium tracks torque is everything. You give someone 50ft.lb. more torque and that is a huge advantage. Getting up to speed and keeping the speed up around the track, and out of the turns...
But this Chevy BABYING isn't just recent years, it has been all though the generations. Just like back in the 80's. The Elliott brothers father went up north to Penski racing and bought a dyno from an old garage that Penski was selling out. Took the Dyno back to Georgia and turned Dan and Ernie Elliott loose with the 351 Cleveland. What they did was perfect the Cleveland into a perfect and efficient package. Chevy didn't give a crap in the 70's about the Cleveland, it was bigger, heavier and downright weaker than the 350, so nothing bad or negative was said from the Chevy camps. Dan found that if he ported the head and intake, of the Cleveland, he could create a swirl of air going into the combustion chamber. The swirl of air was already cool air to begin with, but the swirling effect had a cooling effect on the head, and naturally the piston as well. With cooling the head and combustion chamber down, they were able to step up the compression of the piston. Compression is the #1 way to make horsepower, especially if you have a intake and head design that is good enough to allow it to be utilized. The cleveland had a 2.08 intake valve, so no mistaking, it had plenty of lungs to do the job. So Chevy started crying to NASCAR, "The Cleveland is way bigger than the 350, oh it is a big block engine"... NASCAR outlawed the Cleveland. Then the back glass slope of the 83 and up Thunderbird, very good areodynamics and worked well. Well Chevy knew this all those years, but after Ford winning so many races, what does Chevy do, they sure don't go to the board and start working on their production models, they just go whine to NASCAR. What does NASCAR do? Well Chevy got to start running a back glass extension mid season on the "FAKE" Monte Carlo, until Chevy could get to the drawing boards the next model year and get a design worked out for the next production year... 9 times out of 10, Chevy never has to do anything except cry to NASCAR, and NASCAR will do the work for them... Any of the advantages Ford or other manufactures gets, Chevy just relies on NASCAR to disable that advantage and Chevy comes out smelling like a rose...
Look at Geff Gordons team, every race for 6 years back from 97-2003 when they were caught, they came into the pits and every pitstop they pulled the fenders up on the front fender wells over the tires. Playing it kewel, they were making out like they had tire rubs and such. But not until after many wins by the 24 team was anything said, to them about the car not fitting a template after the race. But you let Matt Kensith jump on a car in the Winners Circle and they strip him of a race because of the top of the car being too low. Or the instance where Biffle was fined because of the rear quarter panel being 1/4" too low, when they could see the track bar had bent.
All points to one thing, GARY NELSON, ex Hendrick Crew Cheif, that was hired by NASCAR for the inspection of cars. You think Gary Nelson that had possible stock with Hendrick, as well as pension with Hendrick, is going to stab Hendrick in the back? Hell no...
Lets just say that NASCAR has been MORE than fair to Chevy over the years...
Look at Childress back in 1990 appointed by NASCAR to build the first Truck and test freely at all the tracks. That was free testing... Naturally Childress went on to win the first Truck series championships. Funny thing was None of the Hendrick cars could do much of anything in 06, well until the fake death of his son. But that was also the year that NASCAR was buildi
