My Silverado has only burned out the front right... twice.
Recently we started noticing on the highway that this is the case for most Chevys with a burned out headlight as well. Is it a coincidence? Why do Chevy Silverados and Tahoes tend to burn out the right headlight?
It is no coincidence. Chevy has been having this problem since 1996. Why? The wiring harness changed in 2006 to accommodate an extra piece of computer-operated gear in the transmission, as well as the oxygen sensors and the ECU underwent some minor changes. These new items tallied up a slightly smaller amperage draw than previous models, but GM didn't think it was worth changing other things that would have cost them a few thousand more dollars, so they left it alone. Since the wiring draws power off the same leg as the left headlight, the voltage there stayed the same, so the left headlight turned out fine. But the right headlight was left trying to fill the void with a small problem of .473 amps more than it needed, and so, the right headlight burned slightly brighter than the left, barely noticeable unless you were really looking for it. The light was just a little brighter until after about 6 months to a year, the bulb gave out from too much amperage. This, my friends, is why the right headlight ALWAYS goes out in chevy trucks after 1996.Why do Chevy Silverados and Tahoes tend to burn out the right headlight?
because they dont build nothing like they use 2!
