Go th the libary and rent a Chilton book onyour vehicle. How do I replace the starter on my 97 Chevy Blazer?
Probably a 2.8, maybe a 4.6. Starter is usually on the driver's side....I think...never can remember. BPO (Buick, Pontiac, Olds)is on one side and Chevy is on the other. Anyway, disconnect the battery first...very important. Now take the two bolts out of the starter. Losen them evenly at first so it doesn't bind up. Now drop the starter out of the hole (it will probably fall by itself) and take the wires off that are attached. Lay the shim aside (flat piece of metal) it will need to go back on there. It's just a big washer so to speak, but it's critical for proper spacing for your starter to mesh with your flywheel. It is possible that there is no shim, just make sure whether it has one or not. Good luck.
