I have heard of timing chains never wearin out for the life of an engine, even going way back to fords and chevys, is this true?Does a timing chain in a nissan v6 last the life of the engine?
The Timing Chain should last the life of the vehicle, the tensions occaissonally make some noise on the 3.0 in the Maximas, i have not seen any issuse with the chain itself though.Does a timing chain in a nissan v6 last the life of the engine?
Timing chain wear happens some cars wear out the chain, tensioner and guide rails and sprockets. Rattle Whir buzzing and sometime a Cam shaft position sensor code will be the only way to know if the chain has to much slack in it. Modern 4 cam V-6 24 valve or V-8 32 valve engines may Have two or three chains. And lots of moving parts that have to be lubricated properly. Oil changes and air filters are key to long engine life. Dirty oil that has lost it's anti wear property's ruins motors.
ive been working on cars for years now and have never seen a "plastic timing belt" they are made of tough rubber with nylon woven throughout the belt.
I drive a 2003 nissan 350z with a 3.5l v6 with a timing chain(vq35de) and there is NO replacement interval according to the dealer.Does a timing chain in a nissan v6 last the life of the engine?
Well, make sure it is a chain and not belt - a timing belt needs to be changed in under 100k miles - the chain I am not so sure about. Have you had any timing problems?
They might have lasted longer in the older cars but they wore out. The newer cars have plastic timing belts so they need to be replaced more often.Does a timing chain in a nissan v6 last the life of the engine?
They last longer than a timing belt but it still has a replacement interval.
No, it all depends on how you drive it. If you really rag on it, it will not last. To replace one it would cost around a couple $100.
No, a timing belt always needs to be changed at some point or another.
As long as the oil is changed on a regular basis it should last for years.
they wear out in just about every vehicle, that is just a fact of life. i do not remember a spec though.
